What can cause the veins under the tongue to swell? my dentist noticed this today and was concerned, but did rule out cancer.

Swelling: Lots of possibilities including, but not limited to, allergic response, blocked salivary ducts, burn, trauma, change in meds, systemic problem such as Diabetes, etc. Make appt to return to Dentist in 2 weeks. If veins still appear swollen, referral to Oral Surgeon may be in order.

Veins: It's not uncommon to see your veins underneath the tongue, especially because they are commonly close to the surface. The same thing that can cause varicose veins in other parts of your body can appear in the veins underneath your tongue.
