Growth vs open sore: A wart is a growth. A sore is, well, an open sore -- a hole in the surface. Herpes is the most common cause of genital sores. For sure check it out ASAP if that's what you have, the earlier the better for both accurate diagnosis and effective treatment if it's herpes.
