Few possibilities: This type of pain could be caused by several things. 1. Muscle spasm, 2. Kidney stone or infection, 3. Referred pain from gallbladder/gall stone or other. If the pain is intermittent and not severe, it's more likely to be caused by a muscle spasm. If the pain is severe, if you have fever, urinary or gastrointestinal symptoms associated with it, I'd suggest getting in to see your PCP for an eval.
