A member asked:

5yo perf eardrum mild hearing loss that is getting worse. failed tympanography. why hearing getting worse? worry about mastoiditis? regular ent appts.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It happens/rare: Mastoiditis is rare today in children or adults that have access to medical care. When there is a recurrent middle ear issue there is often mild hearing loss due to the muck that accumulates in the middle ear and interferes with the ear bones ability to amplify hearing.Over time, it should improve & regular monitoring is your best way to assure that it does.
