Not enough info: Draining ears with otitis media is common but rarely would require hospital based care.Without information detailing why he was hospitalized and a full review of the records, it is hard to speculate on cause or need to worry. Probably the worst case scenario would be chronic infection of the middle ears & mastoid ear cells.This can require hospital care, IV meds and surgery to clear.
