Ouch, the Gouch.: Once it has been established that the pain is due to gout, you will need a physician to guide you through the treatment regimen. Anti-inflammatory as well as gout treating medications can be prescribed to help with the pain and inflammation. A low purine diet may also be necessary to further control the flare ups. Just simply taking medication may not be sufficient to keep gout under control.
