Y : Different head shapes can occur from premature fusion of skull sutures. Sometimes flattening of one side of head is caused by this phenomenon. If multiple sutures fuse then damage to brain can occur not allowing normal brain growth.Surgery would be necessary. Sometimes surgery is done for cosmetic reasons. See picture enclosed.

Many reasons: Dr. Mandell described congenital causes of skull abnormalities. Other causes can be positional forces in infancy flattening the head. This positional plagiocephaly occurs when a baby doesn't move his head enough. Mostly it is a flat occiput. Invariably these conditions are benign with some notable exceptions. If you're well, then there is no need to worry. Cosmetics are something else entirely.
