Not a normal life: The portal vein carries blood from the stomach, spleen, small intestine, large intestine, etc. If the portal vein is blocked, where would all that blood flow to? That is the first problem. Also, the portal vein flows into the liver allowing the liver to process both the good and bad stuff absorbed by our gut from our food and drink. If the portal vein is blocked, the liver can't process the stuff.
