It happens: The intense itching in scabies is an allergic reaction, not to the bug, but to the feces they deposit in their burrows under the skin. Treatment will kill the mites, but your body will continue to react to any residual bug debris until the body has processed/disposed of it & the reaction settles.It can takes a week or two, but your own drive to scratch can trigger a recurrent itch/scratch cycle.
