I would suspect: a drop of that magnitude is lab error as you suggest. If you are 49, I expect your daughter might be in her 20's; an HDL of 28 mg/dl would be pretty unusual in a woman of that age. So first, I would repeat it. Beyond that, undesirable genetics is the largest contributor to low HDL along with sedentary lifestyle. High BP, elevated insulin, midriff body fat with low HDL leads to metabolic syndrome
