I would suspect: a drop of that magnitude is lab error as you suggest. If you are 49, I expect your daughter might be in her 20's; an HDL of 28 mg/dl would be pretty unusual in a woman of that age. So first, I would repeat it. Beyond that, undesirable genetics is the largest contributor to low HDL along with sedentary lifestyle.
