A member asked:

Hi. my iron level is 3.2 . wouls supplements be enough or is an infusion necessary?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Oral supplements are usually enough. However, if you are not absorbing iron efficiently or you have excessive losses, each month, you may need an infusion. What is your hemoglobin? If it is above 8-10 gm, you should give oral supplements a try. Take multivitamins also. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.
