The midline catheter: is essentially a glorified peripheral IV catheter that can be left in place for up to 30 days. Although rocephin can be administered through it, it is likely that the vein it is in will sclerose from the antibiotic within a few days necessitating replacement. Central venous administration through a PICC line will avoid this potential complication.
