A member asked:

I have read all the bad effects a statin can have, but other than lowering cholesterol how will you feel better while on a statin?

Statin are not: medications to help you "feel better" they are medications to reduce your risk of future serious disease. By taking a statin now (if you need it) you can reduce the likelihood of "feeling" a heart attack in the future. You will "feel good" reducing your risk of heart and vascular disease and prolonging your life expectancy.

Everyone differs: Many patients with high cholesterol or high triglycerides cannot feel their levels are elevated. Today there are millions of patients on daily medication to bring levels back to normal. Many patients will not feel any different and that means not any better or worse but may feel good about lower cardiac risk. Those with an intolerance may feel worse soon after starting with muscle aches or fatigue.
