Time + cough med: Pneumonia will take time to clear & coughing helps bring up some of the debris from the repair work. A 6 yo can take Mucinex (guaifenesin) or robatissin, more to loosen the material than anything else, & plenty of fluids. Many kids will stop coughing after 1-2 wks.

At home rememdy:: Dear concerned mom, a cough is usually the last symptom to resolve. This is commonly caused by a post nasal drip. You can rest assured that your daughter is likely still on her way to recovery! if her doctor has not prescribed anything for cough you can try using children's Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm and increasing her fluid intake. If she worsens or has trouble breathing bring her to the er immediately.
