It is common,: especially in HIV testing where there are several methods, to indicate which method is used. There are at least 4 generations of HIV tests....each successive generation provides more accuracy and earlier definitive results. The two methods mentioned in your question are earlier generation tests; final follow-up testing at least at 3 months after exposure, and possibly 12 months, may be recommended
