Need more info: Injury or no injury? Swelling or no swelling? Any overuse activities liking hiking, running or sports? Pain on the front, inside, outside or back? Cracking is not necessarily associated with the pain, or can be a sign of swelling, with enlarged soft tissues or fluid in the joint or around ligaments/tendons. OCD...: Hello, What you describe may be due to cartilage/bone injury in your ankle joint. Think OCD (Osteochondral Defect), pain with "clicking" may indicate this. Advanced imagining maybe warranted to rule this out. Consult a podiatrist or orthopedist.
