Gums: Swollen gums indicates a need to see your dentist. He/she will let you know what is the best course of action. If there is infection that needs to be cleared up. Peace and good health.

3rd Molar Treatment: Good day; Diagnosis and removal of Wisdom Teeth need to be decided on an individual basis. Prophylactic removal of 3rd molars are not recommended. Mal-position, chronic infection, partial eruption necessitate extraction. An x-ray(panorex) of the jaw, on occasion a scan of the oral cavity, will assist with expert diagnosis. Recommend you contact DDS/ Oral Surgeon; as your symptoms indicate!

Teething: You may in pain because teeth are trying to emerge. The pain may be due to the teeth being blocked from erupting (impacted or partially impacted), in which case they be damaging adjacent teeth and/or supporting tissues. Pain may be due to an infection. See a wisdom tooth specialist, an Oral Surgeon, for x-rays and an informed opinion. Can't make that decision for you without examination.

Possibly: It really depends on the position of the teeth, if they are impacted, and their condition. This question is best answered after being examined locally by an oral surgeon.

Dentist: Probably not is the simple answer. But, in New Zealand we would recommend you see your local dentist to help you answer this question. As the other Dr's have suggested, an x-ray to look at the position and condition of the teeth will help you & your dentist to decide. This can be done by a good general dentist. You only need a specialist in extreme or special circumstances.

Contact DDS: See your dentist for a complete radiographic and clinical examination. If the dentist feels it is warranted, extraction of the third molars may be advised. If the teeth appear to be coming in adequately and there is enough room, there may be a need for an operculectomy or warm salt water rinses, speak with your dentist.

Wisdom teeth: There is no one general answer to your question, especially with this type of forum over the internet, sight unseen and without the ability to see x-rays of the teeth. Your own dentist can discuss the options with you and whether or not he/she thinks the teeth ought to come out or not, and if so when.

Ask your dentist.: There are too many factors to address without your exam and x-ray. Pain is not the most common reason to remove wisdoms teeth, it is secondary to other reasons sometimes. Evaluate the details of your situation with your dentist and make the right decision with all the information present.
