YES: Both viral and bacterial pneumonias are contagious:you will be out 3-5 days minimum.

Infectious the ?: The reason not to work is (1) infectious (2) able to do the job. Pneumonia generally has both problems. If an respiratory illness is judged to be due to virus, you are probably infectious only for a few days. If bacterial, not after 24 hours on antibiotics. Many health professionals keep working (2), when they should not (1).
