A member asked:

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have flu. my employer's baby (12 weeks old) who i have a lot of contact with, was recently admitted to hospital with pneumonia and whooping cough. will it be advisable for me to rather contact my doctor for an appointment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some basics: I would. Lots of contact with an infant with whooping cough makes you at risk for it & if you already have flu it may be more intense. Your doc could give you preventive meds to avoid the worst of it. In adults it causes a bronchitis with a prolonged cough lasting months. It is not so risky to the fetus but could make you a carrier that infects others.
