Hard to say: A hormonal based IUD would have the same complication issues as the pill and may or may not help with the heavy cycles. Uterine ablation, where they scar the walls & decrease menses forming tissue or a hysterectomy may be options if they fit with your needs. All these are factored in by your OBGYN when they help you decide your options.

Heavy bleeding: An IUD is a good option for contraception, but, the IUD does contain the hormone progesterone. If you are finished with childbearing, an endometrial ablation will control the bleeding but it does not necessarily offer contraception. With your history, your interests are best served by having a sitdown with the gynecologist to see what will work for you.
