I am on xarelto due to a pulmonary embolism 3mos ago, and my periods are extraordinarily heavy. i havent gotten to see a gyn yet. would an iud be an option to control this? if not, what are my options? i am 23 and still want to have kids some day.

An IUD would be: effective for birth control but would be unlikely to change your periods or their nature. Birth control pills or other hormonal therapy might be a better choice. You will probably have heavy flow as long as you are on the Xarelto but since a PE is life threatening it would make sense to continue treatment and put up with the inconvenience.
