Epithelial cells...: of the skin/mucous membranes then it moves on to the nearby nerve endings to travel through the nerve fibers up to the nerve cell bodies where it hides until it's time to hit again. In that case, the virus descends through the nerve fibers back to the skin and cause, typically, the Shingles (Zoster).
