Red from blood: Red drainage at 8 months is usually a seroma, or hematoma that finally lets loose; but if the area is warm & red, that sounds like an infection. If draining, they should be seen within 12 hours....thus, it can be handled at the surgeons' office the next morning. If you can't get into the PCP or surgeon, yes, then go to the ER. Good luck.
