Chagas: Chagas disease is caused by the parasite trypanasoma cruzi, and is common through parts of Latin America. Many patients with this infection will develop heart muscle weakness (cardiomyopathy). Echocardiography shows the structure and function of heart muscle so if cardiomyopathy is significant, echo will show it.
