A member asked:

My father has had a chronic cough for over four years. what could be the cause? he often times throws up after a coughing episode.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Smoker?: There are a number of common things that cause a chronic cough. Post nasal drip from allergies is one, asthma is another, reflux disease, and emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Throwing up after a coughing episode is called post-tussive emesis. That is pretty normal.
