After missing period: A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 1 week after missing a period, or 3 weeks after having sex (if a woman can't predict when she has missed a period because of irregular periods). There is usually no need to test any sooner... because testing too soon may give a false negative result and cause a person to worry and to retest a week or two later.
