Is it possible to have hpv with no genital warts, and no precancerous cells? just the infection itself?

YES: There is an asymptomatic carrier state, which is contagious and considered a true STD.

Certainly: Of the dozens of strains in the HPV family only 2 are known to be associated with warts so far. There are at least 7 associated with cervical cancer & you can carry (& pass) these for decades before you develop precancerous cells. That is why it is important to maintain regular Gyn follow up and get pap smears done. These can identify cell changes early, before they turn cancerous & can be removed
