Painful?: Painless popping is usually of no concern. After ACL surgery, popping can occur due to minor shifts of fluid in the knee, tracking changes of the patella or due to small areas of scar tissue. It often takes 6-12 months to "re-build" the muscles to a satisfactory level after this surgery. If I can help, then join my virtual practice at www.healthtap.com/dr-clarkeholmes

Varies: There a variety of reasons someone's knees might "pop" after ACL reconstruction: residual instability, scar tissue, atrophy, patellofemoral disease, osteoarthritis. Therapy can be helpful if it is atrophy related. Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion if you are not getting the answered or treatment you feel you need.
