Common: During a cold the tiny drainage passageway from the eyes to the nose (tear duct) can swell shut. Mucous that remains after a nap or sleep period is common and benign.Wiping it away should be all that is necessary. If it begins to crust up continuously and or the skin around it gets inflamed, it can be a germ issue/conjunctivitis and need treatment.
