Submit your case: Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Typically, insurance will not cover an abdominoplasty. However, it may cover a panniculectomy (i.e., excision of extra abdominal skin alone, without repairing the muscles or belly button). Ask your surgeon about this, as not all surgeons will submit your case to insurance. I suggest consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.

Ask The Insurance Co: Insurance typically does not cover abdominoplasty, though it might cover panniculectomy (lower abdominal skin removal) if there is a medical necessity. The "proof" often involves your primary care physician. The best way to find out what your insurance requires would be to ask them what is covered and when (what they deem as medically necessary to approve the claim). Best wishes!
