Hair gets its color: from a pigment called melanin. Melanin-producing melanocyte cells position themselves at the skin surface above the root of the hair follicle. As the hair grows through the skin melanocytes inject their pigment/melanin into the hair. As we age, most people experience a reduction in melanin and the hair remains white/gray/uncolored. Genes are main influence on when this occurs. Stay well:)
