This depends on the: person and is variable. It also depends on the stress. I would think that after 33 years of life you would have a pretty good idea about these things for yourself. Maybe getting some counseling would help you to deal with your stress more productively. Ask your health care provider for a referral to a counselor.

Depends: This depends on how stressful and who you are and the psychological make up that you have. Some people bounce back very quickly and even thrive on stress. On the other hand people can be traumatized by a very stressful situations expecially if it is prolonged . If you have trouble functioning, become depressed or suicidal or you have continued anxiety you should see a professional.

Therapy?: Depends on the individual. I'm guessing you're feeling it worse than usual? Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room.
