Croup: Croup is a viral illness that in kids causes that classic seal-like cough. When adults contract this same virus, we usually get laryngitis, losing our voices. The anatomy in the area around the vocal cords and in upper wind pipe are different enough to cause the difference in symptoms. Antibiotics DO NOT HELP! This is a virus.
