Multiple lipomatosis: Multiple familial lipomatosis is an autosomal dominant condition in which patients develop multiple lipomas. Affected individuals will pass it on to 50% of their children. It has variable penetrance, so the size and number of lipomas may vary. Surgery to remove any growing or symptomatic lipomas is the treatment of choice.

Yes: There is no good understanding of why some people develop a benign lipoma, while others do not. There is no data that indicates that a person with one lipoma has to develop another. Whatever the conditions in your body are present which contribute to the first lipoma formation, the same conditions will make you more likely to develop another.
