I'm concerned about reglan, my doctor prescribed it for a possible hiatal herniation, but the side effects are very scary.

True but: Metaclopromide does have very real side effects but are not that common. It is a useful and safe medication that works. If however if the diagnosis is unsure and you are hesitant to take the medication you probably should discuss this with your doctor.
