Muscle knots?: They are probably "knots" in your muscles. These are just areas of muscle that have tightened up. Probably a good massage will help. Regular exercise will help stop you from getting knots

Knots: The rib cage consists of ribs,intercostal muscles,and ligaments none of which are truly movable by manipulating them by hand. Breathing and coughing causes movement. If you have fatty deposits(lipoma) they can be moveable. Muscle cramping of intercostal muscles isn't likely. Pinching of intercostal nerves causes Sharp pains. An MD could check these movable structures for you.
