Should i go to the er with painful swallowing after an upper endoscopy? would a perforation be common enough to warrant a diagnostic x-ray?

Rare: Would be rare. Rather than going to ER, call the MD who did the scope. MDs always have someone on call after hours. If you can't reach him/her, then go to ER.
