HSV blood tests: You have HSV1, 2, or both. Ignore the IgM results. HSV IgM antibody in theory detects early infection, but the test is inherently very unreliable. Also, IgM antibody never tells HSV1 from HSV2. Some IgG antibody tests also do not differentiate HSV1 from 2, and that seems to be the case here. Ask your doctor about having a type specific IgG test that accurately measures antibody to both HSV1 & 2.
