A member asked:

5year old girl, itchy vagina high potassium in urine. burning when peeing antibiotics-at follow up blood in urine how worried should i be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: A 5 yo often gets these symptoms from exposure to soapsuds in the bath.Soap enters the vaginal opening and unless the area is rinsed well, the soap film can dry and trigger itching/burning near the pee hole. This can produce enough trauma to show as bloody urine. Many assume this is a UTI based on a squat/pee collection, but that is usually contaminated.Only a good clean catch or cath spec is valid
