Cough is complicated: Chronic cough can be many things. From your description i would want to consider allergies and asthma, as well and chronic sinusitis and reflux. If not improved my workup would likely include a flexible laryngoscopy, (scope in nose and throat to look at sinus openings and voice box) a pulmonary function test, and possible allergy tests , chest x-ray and sinus ct.

Chronic cough: Persistent dry cough only during waking hours and stops when asleep in young healthy people are usually habitual in origin as cough reflex is a vicious cycle! other possible causes includes cough variant asthma, acid reflux, laryngeal cleft and some others.
