My 5 yr old daughter had diarhhea a week ago and since had yellow loose stools and lots of gas with on/off abdominal pain. would a virus last so long?

Yes: While the virus may not be actively damaging the gut lining they often continue to shed in the poop for up to 6 weeks or more.The digestive/absorptive surfaces must rebuild and that can take some time.Transient loss of the ability to digest milk sugars can mean watery stools for a while but it will return.
