Fu, possibly mri: A detailed exam by a specialist can usually determine the likely possible causes. An mri shows soft tissues in the knee such as ligaments, tendons, menisci, where xrays just show bone. So consider asking for an mri. It all comes down to making a correct diagnosis, only then can appropriate treatment options be selected.
