See piriformis: Sometimes irritation of a muscle called the piriformis can cause sciatica. This is a muscle deep in the buttock. The sciatic nerve travels directly under this muscle in most cases and in as many as 15% of people pierces the muscle on the way to the leg. Inflammation, tears of this muscle will often produce sciatica symptoms. Medication, pt and sometimes injections help.

Possibly: If its the Piriformis muscle that is torn it wraps around the sciatic nerve and can cause similar pain issues.

Torn muscle/sciatica: The biceps femoris muscle (hamstring) attaches to the ischial tuberosity ("sit bone") and the sciatic nerve passes next to this muscle attachment. Sciatic nerve dysfunction can occur if the muscle detaches from the tuberosity and retracts into the thigh. The nerve is also at risk for injury if during an orthopedic reattachment procedure.
