400 micrograms: www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/913.aspx?categoryid=54 Some women have an increased risk of having a pregnancy affected by a neural tube defect and are advised to take a higher dose of 5 milligrams (5mg) of folic ... this is advice from the British National Health Service. 5 mg is 5000 micrograms, which is more than 10 x higher than the typically recommended dose of 400 mcgr. Talk to your OB.
