A member asked:

Why would thyroid panels need to be done in linear dilution to find hypo. thyroid issues? mom had to have this if not her disease didn't show up?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hypothyroid diagnosi: This does not make sense. Most assays for FT4 and TSH have a broad range, and the diagnosis of hypothyroidism (low FT4, high TSH) is clear. If your mom's TSH was very high, maybe >150, they may have needed to dilute the sample, but it really doesn't matter if the TSH is 100, 200, or more. It's high.
