Nerve pain : This sounds like nerve pain. However because there is tenderness to touch there could be some inflammation or infection going on as well. I would recommend you visit your doctor for a proper examination and possibly X Rays or ultrasound of the Lowry back , hips and thigh

Meralgia paresthetic: It's possible that it's a condition called meralgia paresthetica where the nerve gets irritated. This usually happens over the anterior thigh but it can happen in various places. It could also be referred discomfort from a nerve in the lumbar spine. If you have no muscular issues I would watch it and see it how it changes. Consider acupuncture.
