Yes it is contagious: Most Pneumonias are caused by viral or Bacterial infection in the lungs.When a person with pneumonia coughs it can cause infection to people around the person.So I will say it is contagious by close contact.But some people even if they inhale the Bacteria or Viruses may not get the infection in their lungs as their bodies defence mechanism kills the viruses or bacteria

Depends: Many are and some are not."Walking pneumonia" is a simple label that designates those that can be treated with oral medication & not require hospital care. Many start with contageous viruses and or inhaled germs from their surroundings.These could spread.Some start as a cold and common airway bacteria that were there already take the opportunity to spread/infect.These are less so.
