Lymph node: Glands are an indication of inflammation and swollen gland in neck are quiet common in kids . They could be due to viral infection like runny nose or due to ear infection, throat infection, dandruff and sometimes due to more sinister causes too. Glands secondary to sinister causes usually do not disappear . Might be worthwhile getting child examined by GP.

Glands: Kids will have more prominent glands than adults. They get bigger with actrrisl or viral infections. I think since the child is wee , there is no cause of alarm but see your GP for an exam as I cannot comment in size and texture.

Swollen lymph glands: Have a look at this resource: http://patient.info/health/swollen-lymph-glands Usually on and off nodes are reactive and don't need any further assessment but if persistent and never fully resolving we do recommend a doctors assessment as the child may need examination and investigation. If you're stuck I can recommend a good GP in Tauranga.
