Possible renal colic: Sharp lower back pain that comes and goes could represent renal colic from kidney stones, especially if the pain moves into the groin. Kidney stones can be extremely painful and quite serious if they block the flow of urine out of the kidney, so this situation requires doctor review urgently, especially if the pain persists/becomes more frequent. Drink plenty of water and see your doc.
