Aneurysms are: usually formed as a consequence of arterial wall weakening from severe atherosclerotic disease or certain genetic or congenital dysfunctions of the fibrous supportive tissues of the vessels. Extreme uncontrolled hypertension could theoretically contribute to aneurysm formation but usually only in the setting of concomitant atherosclerotic disease.
